SPELLING NORMS AS A COMPONENT OF A TOPONIMIC POLICY
Abstract:
The article deals with the implementation of the current spelling norms in the implementation of toponymic policy, carried out both at the level of a particular region, and in general throughout the country. The research material was the "State catalog of geographical names", "City-wide list of names of elements of the street and road network and elements of the planning structure of the urban district, Hero City Volgograd", "Address register of Volgograd and the Volgograd region". From the point of view of the writing system and from the point of view of the linguistic consciousness of a native speaker, special attention is paid to the spelling of complex and compound geographic proper names in the aspect of continuous, hyphenated or separate toponym design, as well as when choosing an uppercase or lowercase letter. The analysis of the linguistic material indicates the stability of the fixation of oikonyms and a greater degree of inconsistency in the spelling of onyms nominating linear topographic objects located within settlements of different types.
