SPELLING STABILITY AND «THE CUSTOM TO JOIN TWO WORDS IN ONE»

The article addresses one of the controversial issues of modern Russian orthography, namely the spelling of some adverbs (bez uderzhu, do upadu, na oshchup’, s khodu etc.), the question being whether, considering their status as adverbs, they should be written solidly. The units under consideration were compared with other constructions based on the same noun and other types of adverbs. Some linguistic arguments to defend the traditional spelling were suggested and analyzed.
