Abstract:

Various strategies for conceptualizing non-agentive situations are used to show that implementation of situations is affected by unfavorable (less often — favorable) factors. As a result, the situation is not fully controlled by the subject. One of the strategies considered in this paper is the use of the construction «U X-a Р» with the possessive cod- ing of the subject. It includes verbs poluchit'sya (‘to come out’, ‘to succeed’), vyjti (‘to come out’, ‘to succeed’), ladit'sya (‘to go well’), kleit'sya (‘to go well’): Ne poluchilos' vstretit'sya (‘Failed to meet’); Otnosheniya u nih ne ladilis' (‘Their relationship did not go well’). These verbs are involved in two constructions: (1) Atwo-member construction, in which the situation is expressed by the nominative, i.e. the subject (Match mezhdu stolichnymi «Dinamo» i «Torpedo» yavno ne poluchilsya ‘The match between the capital «Dynamo» and «Torpedo» has clearly failed (Lit. ‘has not come out’); (2) an impersonal construction, in which situation is expressed by the infinitive or a prepositional phrase (Segodnya poobedat’ ne poluchilos’ / s obedom ne poluchilos’ Lit. ‘Today to dine has not come out / with dinner has not come out'). Another strategy is the use of the construction «X-u (ne) V Inf.» (Emu ne udalos' uekhat' ‘He failed to leave’, Lit. ‘him has not come out to leave') with the experiential coding of the subject.
