Abstract:

The subject of this article is the semantic processes arising from paronymic attraction. The author proceeds from the fact that morphs and quasimorphs of attractants define semantic and formal features, according to which the lexical units containing them are correlated and combined. Rethinking the structure of a word is based on its decomposition followed by formal semantic recomposition, with each verbal sign acting as a modifier in relation to another. The author considers the semantic processes of concordance of meanings, the formation of a new core and periphery in the meaning of components, enrichment with new semes of the meaning of one of the attractants, which can either be part of the same semantic system or belong to different semantic fields. The article provides models of the main operations on meanings, including the emphasis or suppression of semes, the increment of meaning due to optional semantic components, the unification of the meanings of two lexemes, semantic interference when emphasizing common and/or suppressing contrasting semes in the meanings of attractants. As a result of transformаtions, a new meaning is formed, which has points of contact with the semantic fields of all words included in the attraction, and the semantic structure of each of them turns into a predicative unity.
