Abstract:

In this article we discuss metaphors of water in the novels «A Hero of Our Time» by Lermontov and «The Precipice» by Goncharov. In these works one can easily catch the similarities between the men and women images in the aspect of their tropologisation. If we compare the novels, we can find a generation of creative expressions, for example «the foam of passion», «rusaločnye eyes», which clearly show Lermontov`s impact on Goncharov. The main character of «The Precipice» is effected by the romantic style and perception. This is also exposed in Lermontov`s novel. In the novels the disclosure of the inner self is inextricably linked to the central figures` self-establishment. This process is accompanied by water metaphors that establish unusual relationships not only with the art, i.e. the creativity of the artists, but with passion also. Representations of the different forms of water also create a community in these works. So, the primary metaphor in the junction of the texts of Lermontov`s and Goncharov`s novels is based on the images of water and women. They are actively involved in the deployment of the text as metaphors of the creative nature of the poetic discourse. And the transformation process of the living material to the act of comprehension (journal / diary) presented in the novels, as the developing of own discourse, goes parallel to the update of the old concepts. This is the mechanism of poetic creativity that is used for the continuous generation of new meanings.
