NON-CONVENTIONAL TOOLS OF COHESION IN CONTEMPORARY RUSSIAN POETRY
Abstract:
The subject of research in this article is syntactic ambiguity; the material for analysis was based on the texts of modern Russian poets created over the last 35 years. The article analyzes the poetry of authors such as G. Aygi, V. Aristov, N. Azarova, D. Gatina, G. Rymbu, A. Cherkasov, K. Korchagin and others representing different generations of poets. The syntactic ambiguity was examined as corresponding to the verse graphics, in particular, division into lines, stanzas and strophoids. In the context of the modern poetic utterance, the line skip and splitting into strophoids and quasi strophoids may be regarded as a new way of placing punctuation marks, and the very appearance of this sign draws the reader’s attention to the syntactic ambiguity emerging at the line end. Withdrawing from the traditional and conventional punctuation marks can be related to the strategy of deliberate creation and enhancement of syntactic ambiguities in the text. The paper demonstrates the varying possibilities of reading and interpreting the poetic text containing syntactic ambiguity. Addressing the present-time materials makes it possible not only to describe one of the stages of development of the Russian poetic language, but also to clarify some theoretical principles of syntactic analysis of the poetic text.
