Abstract:

The Stephan Permsky’s Life, a well-known work of the Old Russian literature, is studied very poorly in the textual aspect. Its short redactions, in particular, are not considered at all. One of them was possibly created in the early 17th century in the Solovetsky Monastery for the Menaion Reader, which contain new redactions of some Russian saints’ Lives as well, for example the Dionisy Glushitsky’s Life. The Solovetskaya Redaction of the Stephan Permsky’s Life is based on the copy of the Epiphany Premudry’s Redaction from the Solovetsky Monastery with some unique readings missing in other copies of this redaction. For the new redaction the text of the Epiphany Premudry’s Redaction of the Stephan Permsky’s Life was considerably reduced – about four times by removing digressions, while the plot outline was preserved, because the redactor’s purpose was simply to narrate about Stephan Permsky’s works. The Solovetskaya Redaction is a stylistically homogeneous text preserving stylistic and language features of the Epiphany Premudry’s Redaction. It speaks to th e skill of its creator.
