"REDEEMING YOUR SOUL, YOU WILL REDEEM IT" (FROM DANILA ТERENTIEVICH ZAICEV)

The text presents a fragment from handwritten book on the life of Old-Believers in South America. It’s author Danila Terentievich Zaicev is Old-Believer belonging to chasovennoye soglasiye. He was born in 1959 in China, grew up in Argentina, lives in Bolivia. In 2008-2010 he made an attempt to settle in Russia. The text (about 800 pages) is written by hand in Cyrillic alphabet used as a phonetic script; it reflects pronunciation of the author and contains a lot of dialectal features. The published fragment is emotionally strained story about the old believers’ going to the Bolivian jungles to “redeem their immortal souls” in 2001. A deep and passionate belief in redemption reveals in the history, as well as absolutely negative attitude towards any sorcery. The published text was translated in the standard orthography and punctuation; clause and dialogue markers, paragraph and chapter division is given. Every page contains linguistic- and extra linguistic notes.
