Abstract:

The article deals with the peculiarities of pretonic vowels in prefixes, prepositions and the particle ne in Russian dialects with yakanye. Specifi cally it addresses the patterns of internal sandhi (i. e. morphophonology at morpheme junctions) and external sandhi (i. e. morphophonology at junctions of function and lexical words). In addition to the strong and moderate yakanye, seven types of dissimilative yaka nye are distinguished. Three of them are ‘straight’, and the remaining four are ‘skewed’ systems. Besides, there are hybrid (mixed) types of yakanye: dissimilative-moderate, assimilative-dissimilative, etc. Our analysis of data from dialects with diff erent types of dissimilative yakanye, the dissimilative-moderate yakanye, moderate yakanye, and assimilative-dissimilative yakanye revealed that in dialects with the Archaic and Zhizdrinsky types of yakanye (‘straight’ systems), usually no sandhi phenomena are at tested. On the contrary, in dialects where ‘skewed’ dissimilative systems are represented (the Shchig rovsky, Sudzhansky, and Dmitrievsky types of yakanye), and in dialects with the moderate, dissimilative-moderate and assimilative-dissimilative types of yakanye, sandhi are (more or less) expressed.
