PARALLEL CORPUS IN THE SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF RUSSIAN LEXICAL UNITS: CASE STUDY PRISPICHILO ‘HAVE AN URGE’ AND NOROVIT’ ‘TO BE EAGER’
Abstract:
The article presents the results of applying the “monofocal” method of contrastive analysis. The research is based on data from the German parallel subcorpus of the Russian National Corpus (RNC) and on material of a supra-corpus database of constructions with German modal verbs and their Russian equivalents. The article provides a description of two Russian words with complex semantics — prispichilo (“have an urge” or “suddenly want to”) and norovit’ (“to be eager” or “to be inclined to”), which are marginal verbs of desire/intention. Analysis of the “stimuli” for the appearance of these words in translations from German to Russian and the “models” of their translations from Russian to German has allowed for the identifi cation of not only the modal component in their semantics, but also other non-obvious components of their meaning that determine the characteristics of their semantics and usage.
