PROPER NAMES AS COMMON NAMES IN THE WORKS OF A. P. CHEKHOV
Abstract:
The article gives an overview of cases of appellation in the works of A. P. Chekhov, including the corpus of fi ction, drama, letters, travel essays, and journalism. Such cases are considered in diff erent aspects: from the point of view of the semantic class of the denotate, the form of expression, occasional use, stylistic function, the onomastic class of the original names (anthroponyms — with the division into the names of famous people, literary characters and other anthroponyms — and toponyms). Particular attention is paid to affi x formations from proper names in the appellative meaning. The genre diff erences of some aspects are considered. The tool for analysis was the program “Dictionary of the language of A. P. Chekhov” which allows you to search for proper names, including those in the fi gurative meaning, in all the mentioned subcorpuses.
