“THE SERMON ABOUT THE PUBLICAN AND THE PHARISEE” IN MIXED AND STABLE COLLECTIONS OF THE 14th–16th CENTURIES: TEXTUAL AND LINGUISTIC ASPECTS OF RESEARCH
Abstract:
The article deals with the “The Sermon about the Publican and the Pharisee”, which is part of the cycle of Sermons for Great Lent and the weeks preceding it. The content and textual and linguistic features of this work are defi ned. The sources are older copies of the Sermon included in mixed collections of the 14th–15th centuries as well as those in the stable collections of Chrysostom, Solemn (Torzhestvennik) and Ismaragd. Two versions of the Sermon have been identifi ed. One recension is contained in Old Russian miscellanies while the other is included in Chrysostom. A connection between the texts of the older miscellanies and the collections of stable composition is established. There is a certain lexical similarity of the Sermon with the works of Kirill Turovsky. The text of two recensions of the Sermon, with variant readings in the copies of the fi rst recension, is published. The fi rst recension is published according to the copy of the Russian State Library, the collection of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, No. 9, 15th century; the second redaction is published according to a copy of the same collection, № 142, 16th century. The article also presents the long history of this text in Old Russian miscellanies.
