STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF METRICAL STRUCTURE OF RUSSIAN VERSE LIBRE
Abstract:
The study utilizes interval grid analysis to distinguish the metrical structures of “Razgovor s fininspektorom o poezii” by V. Mayakovskiy and “Pamyatnik” by J. Brodsky. It compares the poems with each other and with prosaic model, and utilizes Chi-square test to decide, whether the three distributions are homogenous or not. Comparing “Pamyatnik” with prosaic model revealed a high degree of homogeneity, while “Razgovor...” differs of the other two texts, mainly due to zero, disyllabic, trisyllabic, and tetrasyllabic unstressed intervals. According to author, Brodsky’s poem is written in a free verse, which should be distinguished from an accentual verse. He also suggests a corpus-based statistical ap- proach to reveal the threshold frequency of different unstressed intervals separately for each group of texts.
