THE SECTION OF “INTERSEMIOTIC REPRESENTATION” IN THE DICTIONARY OF A NEW TYPE “THE RUSSIAN AVANT-GARDE IDIOMATICS: CUBO-FUTURISM”
Abstract:
The research is aimed at developing the theory of avant-garde idiomatics and the principles of its lexicographic study. Avant-garde idiomatics is explored on the basis of literary and artistic works (mainly of the 1910s) of the representatives of Cubo-Futurism (V. Khlebnikov, V. Mayakovsky, A. Kruchenykh, D. and N. Burlyuk, and others). Accor- ding to the research fi ndings, the idiomatics of the Russian avant-garde is a semiotically heterogeneous phenomenon that encompasses verbal and non-verbal idiomatics. Verbal idiomatics includes both idiomatic coinages created by Cubo-Futurists (avant-garde idioms proper) and traditional phraseological units (experimentally) used by them. As a result of the analysis, the units of avant-garde idiomatics that have two forms of representation (verbal and non-verbal) are established. Such cases are defi ned in our research as intersemiotic correlates or intersemiotic transforms of their own value and are registered in the separate dictionary section of “intersemiotic representation”. In the dictionary “The Idiomatics of the Russian Avant-garde: Cubo-Futurism”, the section in question is not obligatorily completed, however, its introduction proves to be necessary for revealing an innovative character of the Cubo-Futurists’ literary and artistic work. The contents of the section under consideration is exemplifi ed by means of such entries as bobeobi song the lips, the rout of globeizm, to stick one’s fi nger into the sky; sun <moon> eclipse, and black square. The examples given in the paper make it possible to see the process of idiom-formation in a new light, which can be based both on language and intersemiotic experimentation.
