O.N. Trubachev on the Earliest Aspectual Forms of the Slavic Verb (based on the Etymological Dictionary of the Slavic Languages)

The article deals with a common crux of Slavic historical grammar, the problem of genesis of verbal aspect in Slavic. The author reviews O.N. Trubachev’s approaches to the issue of verbal aspect in Proto-Slavic as represented in the ESSJa entries authored by him; relates his theoretical summations to recent views on verbal aspect in Slavic, and particularly to the findings of Yu. S. Maslov concerning the role of perfectivity / imperfectivity in the making of the Slaviс verbal aspect.
