ʽMountain passesʼ with prefixes pre- and pro- in bulgarian and macedonian placenames and geographic terminology
2018. № 4 (18), 23-33
Abstract:
The paper observes some geographic terms, as well as actual toponyms that represent or include derivatives with the prefixes pre- and pro-, formed from different Slavic roots and possessing a similar semantics ʽmountain passʼ in at least one of their meanings. Both more and less stable semantic models are considered, determined primarily by the meaning of the root morpheme, the derivatives are described both from the bases possessing similar meaning of ʽdisplacement in spaceʼ, and the rarer words of this group for which the meaning ʽpassʼ is clearly metaphorical and more recent.
