Abstract:

An important part of the text corpus of the “Dictionary of the 19th century Russian” is the subcorpus of texts by N. A. Leikin, whose style is characterised by subject vividness, dialogueness, convergence with live speech. The subcorpus consisting of 207 428 words, 4 513 074 word uses, and the concordance compiled on its basis made it possible to supplement the word list of the Dictionary (skosmatit’, shokoladinka, etc.), to identify rare words and words of the author’s style and illustrate them (zdorovkan’e, subbotka, shchupka, etc.), and also made it possible to include in the Dictionary the author’s occasionalisms formed according to regular models of the Russian language (ambarikha, zloekhidnitsa, namuzeit’, proponedel’nichat’, etc.). N. A. Leikin’s works widely refl ect the process of the entering of regional and colloquial words into the literary language, as well as their movement from the periphery to the centre of the lexical system. The corpus analysis of the texts, as well as traditional sampling from the collection of the writer’s
short stories allowed us to identify synonymic series with the meanings: ‘to drink’ (about alcoholic drinks), ‘to hit’, ‘to steal’. The author’s use of a large number of phraseological units, words with emotional-expressive suffixes, verbal vocabulary is also of special interest for the historical dictionary. It is concluded that it is productive to create subcorpora of texts of one author to expand the main corpus of the “Dictionary of the 19th century Russian”. Creation of such subcorpora can help to reveal and analyze idiolect features of famous writers, publicists of the 19th century and to reflect these features in the Dictionary as characteristic features of development of the Russian language of this period.
