Abstract:

The paper deals with accentuation in the same word forms in phraseological units and free phrases. The article tests the hypothesis that active accentological processes can proceed in word forms in phraseological units more slowly than in the same word forms in freephrases. The results of the experiments with speakers of standard pronunciation show that in some nouns of third declination in prepositional case and in some verbs end ing in -ить in forms of third-person singular and plural stress shift from ending to stem is observed in word forms within phraseological units more rarely than in free phrases. For example, the stem is more often stressed in word forms в кости and заморит in freephrases, than in phraseological units широк в кости and заморит червячка. Interestingly, in older speakers group accentuation difference is more frequent. The factors of preserving old stress are rhymes and the confusion of the meanings of homonyms and polysemantic words. The influence of frequency isn’t observed.
