ON RUSSIAN LOANWORD SOUND INTERPRETATION SPECIFICS

The article represents the development of Russian loanword phonetics research in XX–XXI centuries through the selected works of Russian and foreign researchers that highlight the multiple-choice (i.e., multiple determination) phenomenon in loanword pronunciation. There are 3 main domains in loanword sound interpretation in terms of Russian phonetics. Those are 1) russifi cation, 2) stylization, 3) quotation. Their appearance is due to many factors, not all of them might be called linguistic. Amongst them several are of high importance today: primacy of writing (foreign writing included), social strata formation and disintegration (p. e., “intelligentsia” in the XX century), total education improvement and allegiance to foreign language studying process and world-wide intercultural phenomena. The period of time is marked by the scientists’ focus on consciousness grade in multiple-choice pronunciation and its connection to social factors.
