LEXICOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATION OF ACCENTOLOGICAL VARIATIONS IN DICTIONARIES OF THE 18TH–21ST CENTURIES (THE CASE OF VERBS ENDING BY -ИТЬ)

The article deals with the representation of diff erent stress variants of the verbs ending in -ить that are common in the speech of the native speakers in lexicographic sources of 18–21 centuries. The article analyses the recommendations of dictionary sources and compares them with the facts of poetic speech, linguistic descriptions, ordinary speech in fi lms and the results of sociolinguistic orthoepic experiments, which allow us to trace the change in the approach to fi xing accentological variants. The constant discrepancy between common usage and the dictionary norms requires a revision of many dictionary descriptions in modern sources and the formulation of new codifi cation principles.
