Abstract:

Within the context of the author lexicography the review of the term “idiostyle” highlights the concept of characteristics, features or expressiveness, that determines the writer’s manner. That relates to the main task of the author dictionaries which, according to V. P. Grigoriev, is to fi x the author’s expressive means and establish his individual stylistic features. The duality of this problem creates two varieties of idiostyle dictionaries: the diff erential in the composition of lexical units and the complete one. The review of the modern author dictionaries of the idiostyle type shows that lexicographers actively use the genre of the diff erential dictionary which describes the  signifi cant words of the idiostyle and the author’s worldview. The choice is predetermined by various factors, and fi rst of all, the possibility of a detailed representation of units of a particular class as idiostyle specifi ers within a separate dictionary using the lexicography techniques. In the article the author’s diff erential idiostyle dictionaries include: keywords dictionaries; dictionaries of author’s neologisms; dictionaries describing the means of verbal imagery, and some others. The author analyzes the dictionaries of the above-named varieties based on the works of writers and poets of the XIX–XX centuries.
