Abstract:

The article describes the principles of the corpus approach to the study of the individual style of the writer. The object of research is the works of F. M. Dostoevsky, as well as his contemporaries L. N. Tolstoy, I. A. Goncharov, M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin and I. S. Turgenev. The corpus model of the individual style in the proposed interpretation consists of three modules: the author’s idioms, the study of discursive words, and “lexical islands”. The fi rst module is based on the thesaurus of F. M. Dostoevsky’s idioms divided into semantic fi elds (taxa) with information about the frequency of occurrence of each idiom in Dostoevsky’s texts. For an objective assessment of the degree of idiomaticity of the author’s individual style, an idiomaticity index was introduced, calculated according to formal criteria. The module of discursive words is formed by words and syntactic constructions that modify the semantics of the proposition. The “lexical islands” include words and phrases that are signifi cant from the point of view of the author’s style.
