COMMON VOCABULARY OF SERBIAN-CROATIAN DIALECTS (AN ATTEMPT AT GENETIC CLASSIFICATION OF THE COMMON SERBIAN-CROATIAN VOCABULARY BASED ON DIALECTOLOGICAL QUESTIONNAIRES)
Abstract:
The article deals with the genetic and chronological classification of the lexemes shared by the Shtokavian, Chakavian, and Kaikavian dialects of the Serbian-Croatian dialect area. The common vocabulary is identified with the help of a comparison of questionnaires filled out according to the questionnaire of "Serbo-Croatian dialect Atlas" and reflecting the vocabulary of the dialects of different regions of Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina. The analysis is undertaken to try and resolve the issue of the existence or absence of lexical innovations that unite the dialects of this area in different periods of its history. The study showed that the dialects of this region experienced common lexical innovations with Slovenian dialects, with Bulgarian dialects. Serbian-Croatian common innovations exist too but in small numbers.
