Abstract:

The Prologue redactions of the Life of St. Isidore Tverdislov of Rostov have not been studied. It has been suggested that the text of the Life included in the printed Prologue was compiled in the 17th century. However, this redaction appeared in the second quarter of the 16th century: it is probably based on the full redaction of the Life and belongs to the complex of Prologue redactions of Russian and Slavonic Lives and Stories created under Metropolitan Macarius in connection with the unification of the veneration of Russian and Slavonic saints. Subsequently, this complex, and the Life of St. Isidore Tverdislov, passed through handwritten Prologues to the second edition of the Prologue of 1642–1643.
