Abstract:

The common practice of grammatical occasionalisms functional semantic study can be represented as a definite sequence of analytical operations: a) consideration of the unusual word form grammatical nature, proof of its morphological abnormality, explanation of the form absence reasons in the language system, in usage; b) analysis of the dictionary definition of the corresponding lexical, comparison of the dictionary meaning of the word with contextually determined meaning; c) prepared semantic interpretation of the neologism, objectified by the results of the previous stages. The purpose of the following article is to establish whether the generally accepted stage-by-stage analysis is a rigorous algorithm that applies to all grammatical occasionalisms without exception, as exemplified in poetic texts of Mikhail Aizenberg, Nadia Delaland, Andrei Korovin, Lev Losev, Vera Panova, Maria Stepanova, Daria Sukhovei. Occasional short forms of relative adjectives are considered in the first block of the article; in the second block occasional comparatives of adjectives and adverbs are studied; the third block is devoted to holophrastic constructions. The performed analysis allowed to reveal the following: 1. Functional and semantic analysis of potential short forms of adjectives, comparatives of adjectives and adverbs is limited to the framework of the first stage and is carried out based on the dictionary idiomatic meaning of the lexical item. Н.Г. Бабенко 162 2. Most of the occasional short forms of adjectives, comparatives of adjectives and adverbs pass through all three stages of functional and semantic analysis. 3. In some individual cases, the algorithm of functional and semantic analysis of adjectives, comparatives of adjective and adverbs, and holophrastic constructions does not work. The failure occurs during the attempt of going to the analysis second stage. In this case, the mechanism of the grammatical shift operates in the “non-standard mode”, since it is not the word that has the motivating role, but the narrative situation, the precedent text, some background information.
