Abstract:

The interaction between prose and verse was studied by many researchers. In the Russian prosody developed a tradition to oppose the rhythmic of the prose and of the poetry: the rhythm of prose could be considered as a neutral rhythmical background of the verse prosody. Nevertheless, it is to observe some difference in the rhythmic of the “pure” prose and in the prose written by poets. This article gives a new view of this problem: it deals with the evolution of the verse rhythmic and its influence on the poet’s prose in Russian. This research is devoted to proof the hypothesis that the poetic practice of a poet manifests itself in the rhythmical patterns of his prose, even when he writes completely ordinary prose (not socalled «rhythmical prose»). This study is carried out by means of quantitative methods used on the materials of the prose of Russian poets in 19th — 20th centuries: Alexandr Pushkin, Alexei Tolstoy, Feodor Sologub, and Boris Pasternak. The results of this research allow to observe the transformation of the alternating rhythm of Russian iambic tetrameter reflected in the occasional iambs in the prose of the poets. So, it is possible to believe that the hypothesis about the manifestation of the poetic practice of a poet in his prose gets support.
