ON THE DESIGNATION OF THE ROUND IN THE SLAVIC LANGUAGES

The paper deals with the description of two main motivation models in the nomination of round objects in the Slavic languages. The analyses is based on the materials of the 10th volume of the “Slavic Linguistic Atlas” “Folk Customs” and of Slavic dictionaries. As a result, there are given new arguments and concretisations for the one of the etymologies of the Praslavonic word *tokъ ‘threshing-floor’. Also there are discussed some East Slavic derivatives of its synonym *gumьno which denote round objects.
