Abstract:

Тhe article devotes to the pretonic vowel system in one South Russian Dialect. All examples of the pronunciation of the first pretonic vowels /a, e, o/ after soft consonants are given. Тhe data extracted from records of the four women's idiolects (the first two hours). Тhese native speakers were born in an Old-Believers' village placed in Moldavia and lived there all the life. Тhe comparison of their speech shows that the strong yakanye in the dialect changes to the system C'aCV//C'eC'V and then to yekanye and ikanye and this process is different in the different parts of speech and morphemes: some features of the strong yakanye are still preserved.
