Abstract:

The notion of semiotic conceptualization of the world fragment is considered a natural generalization of a well-known notion of the language conceptualization of the same fragment. The design of the Russian semiotic conceptualization of human body and corporality is carried out in the framework of the so-called featured approach that was assigned for the description of how Russian linguistic and body signs reflect various somatic objects and their names, classes, or types, of objects, their properties, functions and conventionalized gestures performed with these objects or over them. The main objective of the paper is to demonstrate the efficacy of the featured approach to some somatic objects from the class of “bones”. Peculiar referential properties both of the class of bones and its elements are revealed. Structural, physical and functional features of bones are indicated, and the meanings and usages of their names and derivatives are described. The meanings of some gestures exercised with the somatic objects and those of some phraseological units containing names of bones are explicated.
