Abstract:

The goal of this paper is to present some epoch–making Russian scholars without whom it is difficult to imagine the nineteenth-century Russian linguistics, especially the history of the Russian stress study. Outstanding works by A. H. Vostokov, Ya.K Grot and many other famous scholars produced the foundation for the scientific study of the Russian stress. For a long time the study of the prosodies in linguistics was in a primitive state compared with phoneme aspect. The subject-matter of the article is specific features of the Russian word structure as one of the word prosodies. The character of the Russian accent structure makes it a very difficult linguistic problem, both theoretical or practical. The Russian stress by its nature is a phonetic unit, but at the same time it is connected with morphology. Both prosodic structure of a phonetic word and a stress as a structural element of a grammatical paradigm are discussed including such aspects as types of stress, its shifting, variation, evolution processes. All this makes Russian stress an absolutely necessary part of teaching the Russian language.
