ON THE HISTORY OF THE NOM. PL. INFLEXION IN -Á OF NON-NEUTER NOUNS
Abstract:
This paper discusses the formation and development of nominative plural forms of the masculine gender in -á and is inspired by A.A. Zaliznyak’s article in the first issue of the journal Russian Language and Linguistic Theory 2018/1. The third part of A. A. Zaliznyak’s article focusses on the question of the Nom. Pl. inflexion in -á of non- neuter nouns. The question of the origin of the forms under consideration is complex and, in our opinion, subject to debate. A review of the role of various factors in the formation and development of non-neuter nouns with Nom. Pl. in -á is still needed. The article discusses such issues as:
1) the genesis of the forms under examination;
2) the structural and accentual characteristics of the words which obtained the new ending in the first stages of their existence;
3) the expansion of forms in -á throughout the history of the Russian language (with attention to their chronological and areal aspects).
