CONCEPTUALIZATION OF THE SPHERE OF CELESTIAL PHENOMENA IN RUSSIAN POETRY OF THE 18th–20th CENTURIES: SUNSET/SUNDOWN/SUNRISE (based on the material of the Russian National Corpus)
Abstract:
The subject of analysis in the article is lexemes of the thematic group of celestial phenomena associated with the sun: sunset — sundown — sunrise. The purpose of the article is to show the differences in their conceptualization, which is understood as the process of formation of artistic concepts in poetic discourse. The conceptual modeling technique allows us to reconstruct all layers of the concept: imaginative, conceptual, figurativeassociative, symbolic, value-evaluative. Against the background of a quantitatively marked sunset, sundown and sunrise differ in low frequency, which is explained by the type of concept they name. The analysis showed that the imaginative-shaped core of the sunset concept provides a high potential for its metaphorical and symbolic conceptualization. Sundown is a concept with a logical core, that includes procedural, temporal and spatial characteristics. The figurative layer of the concept is poorly developed, which determines its relatively low demand in the language of poetry. Sunrise occupies an intermediate position on the scale of poetic conceptualization, approaching sunset in its imaginative and figurative components. The poetic codes of interpretation of these objects of the artistic world largely coincide. All three units reveal a certain symmetry of secondary conceptualization, correlating with the beginning/end of human life, epoch, etc. The author supposes that conceptual modeling can serve as a methodological basis for corpus data analysis.
