CORPUS STUDIES OF ENTRIES OF THE PUSHKIN LANGUAGE DICTIONARY BASED ON THE DATABASE INFORMATION
Abstract:
The object of the research is word usage with marks in dictionary entries of the Database of the Pushkin Language Dictionary. The genre-chronological principle of structuring the tables of the Database allows comparing the marked elements in different genres and periods. The main goal of the research is to identify genre preferences in the use of words marked “figurative” and “combination” on the basis of quantitative analysis of samples by options of the information retrieval system and to find out the tendency in their use in different periods of Pushkin’s creative work. Statistical analysis of samples from the subcorpus of lyrics, drama and prose with the search queries “figurative” and “combination” made it possible to determine the markers of means of artistic expression in the above genres, and for the subcorpus of poems of the early and late periods to establish which artistic techniques marked with these labels are more often used in the first and which in the second half of the poet’s work. Additionally, stylistic marks within one genre represented by the novel in verse “Eugene Onegin” were analyzed using quantitative methods. Based on statistics, the dominant emotional coloring of the novel was determined. Such studies complement numerous traditional methods of studying Pushkin’s works, revealing and systematizing the information presented in the dictionary entries of Pushkin Language Dictionary with the help of database tools and precise me thods of analysis, thus expanding the understanding of the nature of the poet’s work and its spirit.
