COLLOQUIAL, SUBSTANDARD AND REGIONAL LEXIS IN THE SPEECH OF PEOPLE IN REGIONARY TOWNS: A SOCIOLINGUISTIC ASPECT
Abstract:
The frequency of colloquial, substandard and regional lexis in spontaneous monologue speech of two regional cities residents within the Perm regional dialect (Solikamsk and Kungur) is considered in the article. The frequency of these sorts of lexis is analyzed depending on the social parameters of the speakers. The research material is the texts of semistructured interviews included in the audio corpus of Perm regional speech, in which the sample of speakers is balanced according to the factors “city”, “gender”, “age”, “education” and “specialty”. The results of the study show that the history and current state of the city determine not only the frequency of different lexis used in the speech of different social groups, but also the nature of the relationships between this lexis sorts: in Kungur, colloquial lexis is contrasted with substandard and regional lexis, while in Solikamsk such contrast is not observed. In addition, only the factors “age” (generation) and “specialty” (type of professional activity) significantly influence the lexis, while in different cities of the same region different patterns of social variation of lexis are demonstrated.
