NUMERALS AND THEIR DERIVATIVES IN THE “DICTIONARY OF THE LANGUAGE OF RUSSIAN POETRY (20th CENTURY)”: FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF OBSERVATIONS
Abstract:
The multivolume “Dictionary of the language of Russian poetry (20th century)”, created at the Vinogradov Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, presents the poetic language of the Silver Age based on the works of ten outstanding authors (I. Annensky, A. Akhmatova, A. Blok, S. Yesenin, M. Kuzmin, O. Mandelstam, V. Mayakovsky, B. Pasternak, V. Khlebnikov, M. Tsvetaeva). In the article, using the example of the next volume of the dictionary (Volume IX. Book 1, 2021 and Book 2, 2022) we show the features of word formation in the field of numerals. The paper consieders a word-formation nest with the initial numeral three and its derivatives thirteen, thirty, three hundred forming their own nests. The dictionary material, in comparison with the data of the Russian National Corpus, demonstrates the specificity of the poetic language, which consists of: 1) in the special role of culturally and aesthetically loaded contexts of the use of numerals and 2) in greater freedom of forming complex words based on them. It is emphasized that dictionary entries involving single or few contexts are of special interest to the researcher.
