“PEARS REPORTAGES”: THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST RESEARCHES AND FURTHER PERSPECTIVES
Abstract:
This article provides an overview of the research of the last two years, united by a common theme of studying the famous “Pears Film” by W. Chafe in the genre of reportage. Unlike the more traditional genre of retelling, this genre is still poorly researched and described in modern linguistic literature. The article briefl y presents six small corpora collected by the author, including a corpus of recordings conducted using the method of recording eye movements (eytracking). The following are the results of several experiments: on the relationship between the verbal working memory span of the participants and their peculiarities of speech production during the reportage; the study of individual speech styles of commentators using data from eye movements of the participants; the study of the prominence of the referent as an activation factor; the description of the model of introduction in the “Pears Reportages”; the study of “Pears Reportages” in norm and pathology, including a description of the linguistic characteristics of patients with schizophrenic spectrum diseases; comparison of “Pears Reportages” with “Pears Stories” recorded in the traditional genre of retelling, in the same participants. Students of Lomonosov Moscow State University participated in the experiments as test subjects.
