VERBS MEANING ‘TO FALL’ AND ‘TO BE HURT’ IN THE EXPLANATORY DICTIONARY OF THE RUSSIAN EVERYDAY SPEECH

The article is devoted to the problems of dictionary description of verbs with the meaning/meanings ‘to fall’ and ‘to be hurt’, functioning in oral and written varieties of everyday speech. It is noted that the approach to the interpretation of such verbs is differentin different explanatory dictionaries, which indicates the complexity of their lexicographic description. In the “Explanatory Dictionary of Russian Everyday Speech” (edited by L. P. Krysin), these verbs are also presented diff erently. Most of them have two independent meanings “to fall” and “to be hurt” (for example, bakhnut’sya, lyapnut’sya,tyapnut’sya, rubanut’sya, etc.), and some have one complex multi-component meaningof “to fall and to be hurt” (for example, akhnut’sya, grobanut’sya, shmyaknut’sya). The basis for distinguishing two meanings was that in diff erent contexts the focus of attention is either only a fall, or only a blow (injury), which may not be associated with a fall. The diff erence in prepositional government of these verbs in diff erent meanings was alsotaken into account. The possibility of combining two meanings is indicated in the interpretation of the verb itself or in the special dictionary zone “pragmatics”. The article also raises the problem of the possibility of unifi cation the dictionary representation of verbs under consideration.
