USE OF THE INDEFINITE PRONOUNS OF THE -LIBO SERIES IN THE CONTEXTS OF THE DIRECT NEGATION

The paper deals with the use of indefi nite pronoun kakoi-libo in the context of the direct negation. The question of the permissibility of such use of these pronouns remains controversial. Based on the material of two samples from the National Russian Corpus (contemporary speech and the speech of the second half of XX century) and with the involvement of experimental data (the survey of native speakers) the acceptability of kakoi-libo in the context of direct negation is examined. The conditions which license the use of kakoi-libo in direct negation as well as the conditions under which do not permit the use of the pronoun are described. The author comes to the conclusion about the signifi cance of the idea of diversity of a set denoted by a noun phrase, for the possibility ofusing a quantifier in the context of direct negation.
