COGNITIVE PARAMETERS OF IDIOSTYLE TYPOLOGIZATION
Abstract:
The author of the article believes that the conceptual idea of idiostyle as a unity of mental and linguistic components is most productive for cognitive poetics. The mental basis of the idiostyle is the individual conceptual sphere, including both the basic concepts of the author’s consciousness and the cognitive structures that are the result of their interaction. The subject of cognitive poetics is the “architecture” of the mental forms of the author and a reader, which allows us to consider the cognitive parameters of a textual activity as possible criteria for the typology of individual author’s styles. The article presents some possible ways for describing idiostyle on cognitive grounds. This description can be carried out at diff erent levels and can be focused on 1) key concepts of idiostyle, taking into account their mental nature; 2) the layered structure of concepts and methods of verbalizing their layers (sensual, conceptual, fi gurative, associative, symbolic, evaluative); 3) paradigms of conceptualization of imagery; 4) conceptual models typical for the author (metaphorical, metonymic, symbolic, propositional); 5) the structure of the concept sphere as a whole and its individual sections (conceptual fi elds). When these and other possible parameters are used, the postulate about “the primacy of the cognitive” works by predetermining the way of idiostyle analysis — from concept to word and its verbal specifi city.
