NAMES OF SQUIRRELS (SCIURUS VULGARIS) IN RUSSIAN DIALECTS (LINGUISTIC AND GEOGRAPHICAL ASPECT)

The article comprehensively analyzes the Russian dialect nominations of belka. The territorial distribution of the specified names is reflected. A detailed description of the extensive area of parallel use of the two most frequent lexemes denoting a protein is given. When studying the nominations, etymological data are involved, if necessary. The lexical and word-forming chains of protein names presented in individual dialects are considered, and the reasons for variability are indicated. The motivational signs underlying the dialect designations of the protein are revealed.
