THE SYSTEM OF STRESSED VOWELS OF ONE SOUTH RUSSIAN DIALECT WITH ARCHAIC VOCALISM (INSTRUMENTAL-PHONETIC RESEARCH)
Abstract:
The paper presents the instrumental and phonetic characteristics of stressed vowels of the dialect of Soldatskoe of the Starooskol district of the Belgorod region, in which archaic akan’ye and ykan’ye of the Oboyan type are observed with a seven-phonemic percussive vocalism, there are few cases of deviations. Possible realizations of all phonemes, methods of opposing phonemes of upper-middle and middle ascents are considered. In the dialect of the Soldatskoe, the phonemes / ѣ / and / e / in most cases are opposed as a diphthong and monophthong, and the phonemes / o / and / ω / are ascending (the wide articulatory base of the vowels of the dialect makes it possible to distinguish between [o] medium ascent and [ɔ]), the distinction between the corresponding phonemes is also supported by the quality of the preceding consonant. Both the phonemes / o / and / ω /, and, less often, / ѣ / and / e / can coincide in the dialect in the same allophone, in this case the archaic dissimilative model can be preserved due to the ratio of the duration of the stressed vowel and vowel in the 1st pre-stressed syllable. Seven phonemes vocalism is a prerequisite for the existence of dissimilative acan’ye and yakan’ye in the dialect: the morphological factor can restrain the appearance of vowels uncharacteristic for the archaic type in the 1st pre-stressed syllable in a number of grammatical forms, or,on the contrary, provide some changes, however, the main reason for the appearance of deviations is phonetic : the existence of archaic vocalism is impossible in dialects without distinguishing seven phonemes.
