THE TERMS OF KINGSHIP IN ARKHANGELSK DIALECTS: THE PHONETIC ASPECT

The paper examines how phonetic changes characteristic of Arkhangelsk dialects as a northern variety of Russian affected items of the lexico-semantic group “Kinship Terms”. The article shows variability of terms as related to consonantal and vocalic systems, the preservation of archaic features and the emergence of innovative ones. There are such phenomena as the loss of labial and dental consonants and [j], assimilation and dissimilation, variants with a hard and soft consonant in the base, signifi cant variability of accents within the same lexeme, transition and intransigence /*e/ in [o], refl exes of *ѣ and much more. Some phonetic processes in modern dialects have ceased to be mandatory, and it is necessary to recognize the lexicalization of once phonetic phenomena. As a result of phonetic transformations, the sound image of a word varies, and its phonemic and morphemic structure may change. However, changes at the phonemic level do not always make it possible to isolate a new lexeme. 
The need to present phonetic and phonemic variants of the lexemes we are interested in is caused by the tradition of their presentation in dictionaries of the Old Russian (and sometimes modern Russian) language, as well as in dialect dictionaries.
A large amount of factual material collected in the field during the collection of materials for the Arkhangelsk Regional Dictionary is presented.
