BELOZERYE DIALECTS IN COMPARISON WITH OTHER NORTHERN RUSSIAN DIALECTS
Abstract:
The article continues a series of works on the study of the northwestern dialect zone and the interzonal dialects of the northern dialect. The focus is on the search and interpretation of isoglosses contrasting the Western and Eastern linguistic spaces. The Belozersk dialects have attracted and continue to attract the attention of linguists as a place of migration and settlement of various Slavic and non-Slavic tribes, whose languages influenced each other, and traces of contact can be seen in modern dialects. According to the classifi cation of K. F. Zakharova — V. G. Orlova, Belozersk dialects belong to the Belozersk-Bezhetsky interzonal dialects of the northern dialect, occupying an intermediate position between Ladoga-Tikhvin and Vologda. The article considers the uniqueness of the Belozersky dialect, which, according to the authors, dates back to the old East Novgorod dialect (according to A. A. Zaliznyak’s terminology), influenced by the idiom of Tver Krivichi who migrated to these territories from the Upper Volga region. The Belozersk dialects include lexical elements peculiar to the central and northeastern dialect zones, whose dialects are descendants of the Rostov-Suzdal dialect. Thus, it is on the material of lexics that the combination of Western and Eastern features is most representative.
