FREE VERSE (VERS LIBRE) IN THE RUSSIAN NATIONAL CORPUS: SOME IMPORTANT REMARKS
Abstract:
The article analyzes the possibilities off ered by the RNC for searching and versification analysis of works written in free verse (or vers libre), one of the most difficult types of modern Russian verse for contemporary verse studies, as well as the theoretical and practical problems arising in this process. As an example, the presentation in the Corpus of poems by the early Russian Symbolist A. M. Dobrolyubov, one of the most prolific vers libre poets of the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, is chosen; unfortunate omissions in the material are shown and an attempt is made to explain them. Examples of vulnerabilities in the interpretation of free verse and related unconventional verse forms arising from various flaws and contradictions in the compilation of the Corpus are given, and suggestions for their correction are also given.
