Abstract:

The article examines augmentatives, or augmentative names, as one of the means of expressing hyperbole in Internet comments, which are interpreted as a type of text of the new colloquial speech localized on the Internet. Based on the ideas of L. P. Krysin on the naturalness of hyperbole for Russian colloquial speech, it is shown that almost four dozen augmentatives are used to express exaggerated assessments — both positive and negative — which are combined into six groups by semantics — from the actual evaluative types of огнище, днище to the etiquette types of приветище, including the designation of a person of the экспертище type, his qualities of the талантище type and events, states of the скукотища type. The conducted analysis allowed us to identify the methods of introducing the considered forms into the text of the comment, the purpose of which is to enhance their hyperbolicity; among such methods are syntactic, lexical and paragraphemic. Thus, among the syntactic methods of using augmentatives, constructions with negation, gradational and tautological are noted: Это не бомба. Это бомбище! ‘This is not a bomb. This is a big bomb!’; Лайк, лайкос, лайкосище ‘Like, like, big like’; Дно днищенское ‘The bottom is bottom’. The data provided clarify the ideas about the Russian augmentative and the new colloquial speech with its pragmatic attitudes towards brevity and maximalism.
