Abstract:

The paper analyzes the parameter zones of dictionary entries which reflect the axiological and evaluative semantics. The materials for the analysis are the “Explanatory Dictionary of Russian colloquial speech”, ”Explanatory Dictionary of foreign language words” (L. P. Krysin), “Stylistic Dictionary of Journalism” (G. Ya. Solganik), “Explanatory Dictionary of the language of the Soviet Republic” (V. M. Mokienko, T. G. Nikitina), as well as academic explanatory dictionaries of the literary language. The axiological information contains the culturally determined characteristics about the outward things and is recorded in the dictionaries as evaluative semantics. The axiological information is represented with various degree of completeness and entrenched in different zones of the dictionary entry according to the aim and addressee of the dictionary. There are two ways of representing the evaluation in the dictionary.
The evaluation as a part of the connotation is included with the help of stylistic marks. The lexicographical scarcity of positive labels and the communicative need fueled the emergence of new marks of the positive semantics. The article summarizes the labels of the negative semantics and shows pragmatic-oriented as well as ambivalent marks.
The paper singles out the speech means which reveal the axiological information in the definition area: the word-axiologemes as head-word of the dictionary entry (they express either values or anti-values); evaluative words employed in the word definition; illustrative examples.
The PRAGM zone with the axiological information is the key feature of the “Explanatory Dictionary of Russian Colloquial Speech”.
