Abstract:

The paper considers the syntactic construction with the lexeme PLEVAT′III.2b ‘do not care’, lit. ‘to spit’ (as in the sentence A mne plevat′ na ix mnenie! ‘Well, I don’t care about their opinion!’); PLEVAT′III.2b is an adverbial psychological predicative. The paper off ers a concise characterization of Russian psychological predicatives and the corresponding constructions. These constructions have three particularities: 1) they feature an essential divergence between their semantic and their syntactic organizations; 2) they are collocations of a predicative with the verb BYT′ ‘to be’; 3) many of them are impersonal, that is, they have an empty zero subject; all show the migration (= transfer) of actants from the predicative to the verb BYT′. The formal structures of the illustrative sentence with the collocation BYT′ PLEVAT′III.2b are presented on the semantic, deep syntactic, surface-syntactic and deep-morphological levels. The paper gives a full lexical entry for PLEVAT′III.2b (in the framework of the Explanatory Combinatorial Lexicography), which is supplied with a list of the lexemes of the vocable PLEVAT′ ‘to spit’. A small glossary of several essential notions, such as collocation and support verb concludes the paper.
