Abstract:

The article deals with the expressive-evaluative affixes presented in the “Dictionary of Word-formation Affixes of the Modern Russian Language” (2016) by V. V. Lopatin and I. S. Ulukhanov in modern derivational processes. The research material is neologisms in modern media texts. As a result, different groups of affixes (suffixes, prefixes) have been identified from the point of view of their expressive-evaluative function in derivational processes: affixes that manifest the evaluativeness in derivational processes that is noted in the dictionary; affixes that develop ambivalent evaluativeness in derivational processes; affixes that lack an expressive-evaluative characteristic in the dictionary, but which develop a certain evaluativeness in the derivation processes. The factors determining the evaluativeness (positive and/or negative) of affixes, semantic and stylistic features of affixes and motivating bases, structural and semantic parameters of word-formation models, context conditions, and extralinguistic factors are characterized.
