VERBAL TRANSPREFIXATION IN SERBIAN LANGUAGE

The paper is dedicated to the transprefixation of verbs with the prefix od- in the Serbian language. We got inspiration for the analysis of the word-foramtion of these verbs from the research I. S. Ulukhanov, who convincingly proved the existence of transprefix ation and transsuffixation in the Russian language. Our research proved the existence of transprefixation in the Serbian language as well. It was found that this word-formation mode affects the creation of numerous synonymous-antonymous blocks and that, thanks to some frequent verbs formed by transsuffixation, motivating non-frequent prefixed verbs are preserved, which would otherwise have disappeared from the modern language. Based on all this, it is concluded that transprefixation contributes to the systematicity of the vocabulary of Russian, Serbian and, probably, other Slavic languages.
