Abstract:

One of the basic tasks of modern phonetics in the field of orthoepy is the description of fluctuations within accentual paradigms since this part of the system reveals signifi cant dynamics. Within the framework of this study, we attempted to trace the development of the accentual system of masculine nouns in the Modern Russian standard language to determine patterns in the accentuation of masculine nouns of the second declension and to identify the ways, in which accentual paradigms interact, as it is important for characterizing the modern norm.
Thus, the work describes the dynamics of accentuation of masculine nouns of the second declension and considers active accentual processes in nominal formation (based on experimental data) and the changes of accent in masculine nouns of the second declension in comparison with older accentual paradigms. Particular attention is paid to defi ning new patterns of stress placement and identifying the features of the accent paradigm implementation that are important for characterizing the modern norm.
The dynamics of accentuation of masculine nouns of the second declension consists in restructuring old accent paradigms and establishing new patterns. At the same time, the tendency of grammaticalization (contrasting the singular and plural paradigms not only by grammatical means (i. e. by inflections), but also with the help of diff erent accentuations) is implemented inconsistently. Some lexemes are involved in the trend, while others, on the contrary, reject it, often due to the infl uence of the pragmatic factor.
